Going the extra mile

I was shopping at L'occitane at ION Orchard just two days before the Chinese New Year (CNY) holidays. I was looking for the re-fill for the Verbena hand wash. When I asked the sales person, she just smiled and told me that it was out of stock.

Pause for a moment and go back to recent times, also a few days before CNY holidays. I was at the Dorothy Perkins shop at Wisma Atria. I had wanted to check out which outlet I had requested to pick up my new membership card. The cashier was so nice that she offered to call to ask whether my card had actually arrived. This was without me asking. Sweet.

Now, why couldn't the salesperson at L'Occitane have done the same? Perhaps it was company protocol: that  they are not to call up other outlets during peak seasons like the CNY. I mean, I could have just walked over to the outlet at Takashimaya to find out for myself but it would have been nice if she had suggested to check for me.

I will not be so bad as to boycott this outlet but I must remind myself once again why I used to want to go back to the Takashimaya one*.

*I had told myself before, that I should go to the Takashimaya outlet instead of the one at ION for the latter was much smaller and more crowded. This translated to uncomfortable shopping (bumping into one another) and comparatively more average service (not bad, of course) as one needed to wait for the salesperson to finish attending to one customer before moving on to the next.
